STATEMENT

This performance represents the inner struggle between rootedness and the sensation of being trapped in the roots of my identity. As I stand, with extensions of my hair entwined and tied to the earth, I attempt to manifest the complexity of belonging to a place, the undeniable yet suffocating connection to the homeland.

I remain in silence for approximately two hours, and with this muteness, I invite reflection on the emotional and psychological implications of belonging, delving into the dichotomy between attachment to the land and the desire for freedom. The reflection becomes a metaphorical prison, demonstrating how rootedness can limit freedom and restrict the exploration of other horizons.

The fact that what confines me emanates from my own head speaks to how much of what restricts us lies within ourselves. The prison can be seen more as self-confinement than as a will external to our own efforts.
